What is an “entry system”?
An entry system is composed of the door, side panels or sidelights and transoms.
Can I get any kind of custom door design that I want?
Absolutely. Anything is possible…at the right price!
We sell three different types of doors:
Some of the doors we offer are “pre-manufactured.” Each door design is available in certain sizes, maybe a couple of different wood species and with a couple of different glass options. Generally it is not possible to alter different elements of the door design – what you see is what you get.
Other doors are from custom manufacturers. These companies also offer a range of door designs and build your door especially for you when you order it. You can specif i y exact size, wood species and choose from a range of glass options. As you can imagine these doors are a little more expensive but you get a better quality door made to your specifications.
We also offer “true custom” doors These doors are unique designs made just for you. You tell us what you want or bring in a picture or drawing and we'll have it made just for you….And it is a lot more affordable than you think.
What if I don't like any of the glass options available?
Most doors that incorporate glass come with standard style choices. The more customized the door, the wider range of choices you will have. If you want something unique we can have custom glass built and installed in your chosen door.
Will my door come pre-finished?
Some of the doors that we sell can come pre-finished. We can also help you to arrange for a licensed stainer/finisher to come to your house to finish your door “on-site.”
We will walk you through the different finish options and help you to decide which option would be best for you.
You may decide to buy a matching custom door frame for your door(s) for a couple of different reasons:
• It is for new construction
• Your existing door frame is old and beaten up and should be replaced
• For aesthetic reasons – you would like to have a door frame and trim in the same wood species as your door that is stained to match.
If I buy a frame, can I have my door(s) “pre-hung?
For most of the doors that we sell we can offer them to you pre-hung. We would require that a contractor (either your own or one that we refer to you) confirm the pre-hang specifications with us before ordering.
Do the doors come with hardware?
We do not automatically provide hardware unless you order it.
There are two types of door hardware: Installation hardware and Handle sets
Installation hardware includes weather stripping, brackets, hinges and the like. We will make sure we get the appropriate installation hardware for your new doors.
Handle sets: The fun part. We have a wonderful selection of handle sets to choose from contemporary to rustic and everything in between. To see a sample of what's in our showroom click here.
How long will it take to get my door ?
Depending on the door that you order, it can take from 2-8 weeks to get your door and have it installed.
Sorry, we do not have online ordering. We strongly recommend visiting our showroom so that we can answer your questions and help you design the best solution for your needs.
How many styles of doors do you have?
More than we can list here. We have over 80 doors on display in our showroom and hundreds more are available. Come on in and look for your self! We carry interior and exterior doors as well as hardware from the industries leading manufacturers.
What's the best species of wood for my door?
That depends on a lot of factors. Door manufacturers will provide a couple of options when you pick a door. Again, we can get just about anything made for you in true custom fashion. The sky really is the limit.
What is better: Wood or Composite/Fiberglass?
When you come to our San Diego custom door showroom you will see that we REALLY like wood doors. There is something special about wood doors and they are available in such a wide array of styles, sizes and wood species. However, we know that for some exposures it is just not suitable to install a wood door, in those instances composite or fiberglass is definitely the way to go.
Fiberglass is great because it is very durable, holds up against the elements and is very easy to maintain. Some companies offer fiberglass doors that look just like fiberglass doors - we are excited that we have been able to find a company that manufactures composite doors that look just like wood and are just as stunning.
Do you install?
We will be more than happy to help you to arrange the installation and finishing of your doors. We know some very experienced and qualified licensed installers and finishers that we work closely with.
Can I install the door my self?
You can if you wish, but using an experienced and reputable installer will minimize the risk of potentially very costly mistakes from happening.
Will Grand Entrances work with my builder or contractor?
Of course! We are more than happy to work with your builder, contractor or whomever you designate to ensure that your project is done right.
Does my door come with a warranty?
All of our manufacturers offer warranty on their doors. Size and door location considerations may exclude your door from coverage, but we will help you navigate all of that.
What kind of maintenance will my new door require?
Stain and finish on your doors will require periodic upkeep and conditioning. The frequency of that upkeep will depend on the type of finish on your wood doors and its exposure to the elements.
Do you only sell exterior doors?
No way. We have a wonderful selection of custom interior and custom French doors as well as every style of hardware you can imagine. Visit our custom door showroom to see the largest selection of doors in San Diego.
